BOISE -- Police say a routine traffic stop early Tuesday morning ended with a Rexburg man swallowing a baggie filled with methamphetamine, and then being taken to an area hospital.
Officers reported stopping 33-year-old Michael K. Nugent from Rexburg at approximately 1 a.m. Tuesday near State and Glenwood Streets. They say Nugent's vehicle registration was canceled, and a check into his driving records indicated his license was suspended.
At some point, officers searched Nugent and found a small baggie of methamphetamine which they say likely contained 1 to 2 grams of meth. What's more, they say Nugent managed to swallow the meth after struggling with officers.
According to the Boise Police Dept., Nugent was then taken to a local hospital where "officers collected evidence," and the 33-year-old was observed by hospital staff.
Nugent was later booked at the Ada County Jail on several felony and misdemeanor charges, including destruction of evidence, drug possession, and a misdemeanor driving without privileges.
