BOISE -- Prosecutors have cleared a police officer in the May 29 shooting of a Twin Falls County man.

In a statement Thursday, the Ada County prosecutor's office says a Filer police officer Tarek Hassani will not face charges in the shooting of Markcus May, of Buhl.

Prosecutors say police responded to reports a man had been shot at a Buhl residence three months ago. May was identified as the shooter and fled the home with a gun, leading police on a high-speed chase.

Prosecutors say Hassani approached the vehicle after it was stopped, firing his weapon because he feared May would try to hit him with the car. The bullet remains lodged in May's head.

May faces charges of aggravated battery, assault, burglary and attempting to elude a police officer.
