POCATELLO, Idaho -- Police in southeastern Idaho have taken a toddler into protective custody and arrested the child's mother after the 2-year-old girl was found wandering alone in a rural field.
The Idaho State Journal reports the toddler was found in a field on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation about 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bannock County Sheriff Lorin Nielsen says deputies went door to door to see if anyone could identify her, but no one recognized the child.
Nielsen said the mother was found at about 8 p.m. after authorities performed a reverse 911 call to area residents and she came forward.
Capt. Kevin Fonnesbeck says 28-year-old Ashley Fulbright was later arrested on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear and prosecutors are expected to review possible charges related to the child's wandering next week.
