HAGERMAN, Idaho -- A 26-year-old south-central Idaho man has been sentenced to 30 days in jail and three years on probation for an all-terrain vehicle crash last summer that led to the death of his passenger.

The Times-News reports Shane Haile of Hailey was sentenced Tuesday by District Judge John Butler.

Haile entered an Alford plea to vehicular manslaughter for taking an ATV from a party in Hagerman without permission and crashing it into a ditch last August.

Neighbors who responded described holding passenger Blanton McGee's head above the water and trying to remove him from the ATV.  McGee, of Hailey, died at a Boise hospital.

Butler suspended Haile's driver's license for six months, ordered him to undergo addiction treatment, submit to weekly drug and alcohol tests and complete 600 hours of community service.
