NAMPA – One man is dead following a high-speed chase in Nampa early this morning.
According to Nampa Police, around 3 a.m. officers were called to the area of Hudson and Canyon streets after a citizen reported hearing a woman screaming.
Police spotted a dark-colored full-size pickup driving in a reckless manner without headlights on. When officers tried to stop the truck, it fled the area at a high rate of speed.
The pursuit lasted several minutes until the driver of the truck lost control and crashed near 11th Avenue North and Industrial Road.
The male suspect fled on foot and jumped a fence into a local business. The man was found a short time later hiding under a trailer. The man remained non-compliant with officers who eventually took him into custody.
Paramedics had been dispatched to the crash scene and were there when the man quit breathing shortly after being restrained by police. They began attending to the man who was taken to a local hospital, where he later died. The cause of death is unknown at this time.
Police describe the man who died as a 33-year-old white male. His name has not been released.
The investigation has been turned over to the Critical Incident Task Force and the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office.
