LEWISTON, Idaho -- A 34-year-old Lapwai man has been arraigned on charges stemming from a collision between two boats on the Snake River that killed a 15-year-old Lewiston boy earlier this month.

Gordon J. Higheagle Jr., appeared via video before Asotin County Superior Court Judge William D. Acey Monday on a felony charge of homicide by watercraft and four misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment. Higheagle remains jailed on $500,000 bond.

Higheagle is charged with crashing his boat into another boat at about 9:20 p.m. on Aug. 14, killing Jonas Yochum.

Sheriff's Capt. Dan Hally says the county is still awaiting results of lab tests on a blood sample taken from Higheagle after the crash to determine if he was under the influence of alcohol.
