BOISE -- A 39-year-old Boise man has pleaded 'not guilty' to three counts of child sexual abuse in a disturbing case that has shocked detectives and one Ada County prosecutor.
Back in May, deputies with the Ada County Sheriff's Office arrested 39-year-old Jason Lee Schaber after he allegedly posted an ad on Craigslist offering sex with a 3-year-old child sometime in April.
Attorney John Dinger calls it the most disturbing case of child sexual exploitation he's seen in his short stint as a special prosecutor for Ada County.
"This is by far the worst one I've seen," Dinger told KTVB, adding "It's much harder for the detectives who actually have to look at the material, or search for it online."
Detectives with Idaho's Interet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) were alerted to Schaber's alleged behavior, and begain investigating him immediately after viewing the post.
Dinger says that's when detectives searched Shaber's home, and found at least one video of Schaber sexually abusing the same 3-year-old child.
According to reports, the victim was well-know to Schaber, and the child was subsequently declared in imminent danger by an Ada County judge, and placed in protective state custody.
Schaber was in district court on Friday where he pleaded 'not guilty' to all charges, including one count of lewd and lascivious behavior with a child, and two counts of child sexual exploitation.
He'll appear before 4th District Judge Melissa Moody on February 19th for a jury trial.
While it doesn't appear Schaber was successful in offering the child for sex over the internet, Dinger says evidence suggests the 39-year-old likely would have carried out the act if possible.
Schaber could face life in prison if found guilty.
