BOISE -- The man accused of leaving a severely-injured passenger near the scene of a scooter crash on July 7th is expected back in court Wednesday.

Thomas MacFarlane, 22, is scheduled to be arraigned on a felony charge of leaving the scene of a motor-vehicle accident.

Police say earlier this month, MacFarlane crashed a scooter near South Manitou Avenue in Boise. Police initially responded to the crash, found the scooter, but did not find any crash victims at the scene.

That changed several hours later when a man walking his dog found 30-year-old Mirika Bideganeta unconscious and severely injured near a home in the area.

Bideganeta is a mother of three, and recently moved to the Treasure Valley, according her family.

Police believe the 30-year-old was a passenger on MacFarlane's scooter when the duo crashed. They further believe MacFarlane carried the injured woman for about two blocks after the crash, then left her crumpled body in the home's driveway.

She suffered a severe skull fracture and was in a coma. Bideganeta's family expects her recovery to take months and require facial reconstructive surgery.

The 22-year-old suspect apparently left the scene, and was arrested later that day, according to police.

McFarlane posted a $250,000 dollar bond last week, and was released from the Ada County Jail.
