LAPWAI, Idaho -- A Winchester man has denied Nez Perce Tribal Court charges alleging he shot his mother and tried to burn her body.
The Lewiston Tribune reports 47-year-old Kenneth D. Broncheau, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to murder, domestic violence and aggravated arson in tribal court in Lapwai.
Tribal prosecutors allege Broncheau shot 66-year-old Carol Haskell on June 21 and set her body on fire.
William Howard told investigators he heard a shot, followed by a scream and then another shot. Court records say Howard went to Haskell's house and grabbed a rifle from Broncheau, who said, "I just shot my mom."
Another witness said he used a water hose to try to extinguish a fire that was burning Haskell's body.
The FBI is investigating and Broncheau could also face federal charges.
