BOISE -- An Idaho prison inmate has pleaded guilty to illegally obtaining about $60,000 by filing fraudulent claims in class-action lawsuits and large-scale bankruptcies for more than five years.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says 53-year-old Mark Anthony Brown pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of mail fraud and agreed to forfeit the $60,000. Sentencing is set for Nov. 13.

Prosecutors say Brown filled out claim forms falsely representing himself as a class member or creditor and mailed them to the administrators of the settlements. He deposited the proceeds into his Idaho Department of Corrections trust account and investment accounts.

Court records say Brown ran his scheme from September 2007 through February 2013.

Brown is an inmate the Idaho Correctional Center in Orofino, where he is serving time for grand theft and burglary.
