KEY WEST, Florida -- The Idaho Aquarium, as well as its former president Ammon Covino and former secretary Chris Conk, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to conspiring to illegally transport, buy and sell spotted eagle rays and lemon sharks.
According to court documents obtained by KTVB, Covino asked someone in the Florida Keys to "sneak" eagle rays to him without proper permits.
Covino and Conk also said they wanted to get lemon sharks from Florida, despite being told there were no permits and the transaction would have to be done, quote, "on the down low."
Sentencing for Covino and Conk is set for December in Florida federal court. Both each face up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
