BOISE -- Police say a 21-year-old transient man is in jail after trying to beat and choke a woman in the front yard of a Boise home early Thursday morning.
Officers say they responded to the 1700 block of West Bannock Street around 2 a.m. Thursday. They say that's when 21-year-old John E. Manning threw a woman onto a mattress in the front yard and began to choke her.
Boise Police say witnesses heard the victim's calls for help, and pulled Manning off of the victim and held him until police arrived.
Manning is currently in the Ada County Jail on charges of felony strangulation and misdemeanor battery.
Officers say they believe the suspect and the victim are well known to each other. They also believe alcohol was a factor in the incident.
