GARDEN CITY -- Police say a 38-year-old Garden City man had to be subdued with a taser Wednesday evening after a string of violent incidents, including road rage, DUI, battery, and resisting arrest.

Gary R. Brenner was booked into the Ada County Jail just before 2 a.m. Thursday. Garden City police say his problems began much earlier in the day and were likely fueled by excessive drinking and anger.

According to Sergeant Abe Blount, Brenner first ran into trouble when he physically assaulted three men in a Chinden Boulevard Jackson's Food Store parking lot around 5:15 p.m. That's when the 38-year-old is accused of starting some sort of road-rage incident that led to a fistfight, according to Blount.

Police say the victims were not seriously hurt, and Brenner left the scene after the fight ended. Officers then located his vehicle near 38th and Adam streets, but Brenner was nowhere to be found.

Brenner's next run in with the law happened about four hours later near a home on 37th Street at about 9:23 p.m. That's where police say they caught Brenner driving away in a vehicle after physically assaulting a middle-aged man and woman. Police say he sustained facial injuries in the fight.

Brenner is also accused of "threatening and menacing" one of the victims, who police say was a witness to the earlier road rage incident at the Jackson's Food Store.

Blount says the altercation was likely based on "his anger over them speaking to the police."

When officers finally attempted to arrest Brenner, he allegedly refused and began to resist arrest, and police say they were forced to use a taser to subdue him.

Police determined Brenner had a 0.12 BAC. They also reportedly found open containers of beer in his vehicle.

He was then taken to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise and later booked into jail.

Brenner will be arraigned Thursday afternoon in Ada County.

Charges include:

  • felony intimidating a state's witness
  • misdemeanor battery (two counts)
  • misdemeanor assault
  • misdemeanor DUI
  • misdemeanor open container
  • misdemeanor disturbing the Peace
  • misdemeanor resisting arrest.
