CALDWELL, Idaho -- A 17-year-old Caldwell boy will remain in the Southwest Idaho Juvenile Detention Center on a $1 million bond after police say he tried to kill his mother Tuesday morning.
Seventeen-year-old Jeremiah Ramirez seemed nervous and appeared to fidget as he was arraigned this afternoon, saying "I don't belong here," as he appeared before a Canyon County judge.
Ramirez was charged with attempted homicide, and will likely face the charges as an adult.
Police say Ramirez is accused of slashing and stabbing his own mother -- 42-year-old Mildred Ramirez -- early Tuesday morning. Officers say they found the injured woman laying on the floor of her home near the 3100 block of College Avenue just after 1:30 a.m.
Officers report hearing the woman screaming as they arrived on the scene.
Police broke down the door to the home and found Ramirez laying on the floor, clutching her arm and bleeding. Police say she had been stabbed seven times and wounds covered parts of her left arm, head, and chest.
She was given emergency first aid in her home and later taken to an area hospital.
Authorities say they quickly learned that Ramirez' teenage son was also in the home, and that he had stabbed his mother with what appeared to be two "silver handled" knives.
Police say they arrested a blood-covered 17-year-old Jeremiah Ramirez at gunpoint.
Ramirez reportedly admitted to officers that he'd stabbed his mother after he was arrested.
The teen is also thought to have called 911 to report the stabbing.
Police say when questioned, Ramirez appeared "confused" about what had happened, but did remember getting two knives and being "really freaked-out."
Ramirez then allegedly told police he'd been told to kill his mother by someone or something.
Officers say Ramirez told them "they" said that he needed to kill his mother because it would make the world a better place and that he wasn't sorry about what had happened.
Ramirez also reportedly told police that he'd been diagnosed with schizophrenia and admitted to smoking "spice" Monday afternoon.
Officials say Mildred Ramirez is currently in fair condition at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.
Jeremiah Ramirez is due back in court on Oct. 9 for a preliminary hearing.
