BOISE -- A California man who tried to flee from police in Marsing High School last Thursday is now in the Owyhee County Jail.
Court records show 21-year-old William Calvillo is charged with felony DUI, attempting to elude police, malicious injury to property, driving without privileges and entering school grounds to disrupt the educational process.
Owyhee County Sheriff’s deputies pursued Calvillo in a high-speed chase on the morning of Jan. 30 that ended when he crashed his car in a field next to Marsing High School. Calvillo then fled into the school. He went in a bathroom and looked inside several classrooms before leaving the building and being taken into custody.
The school went into lockdown, but Calvillo was able to enter through an unlocked door. The incident has prompted school administrators to review security measures.
In court Tuesday, Calvillo was appointed a public defender. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 10.
