BOISE -- Police have charged the 59-year-old driver of a ValleyRide bus after he crashed the massive vehicle into the Idaho Power headquarters in downtown Boise last week.

The driver, who isn't named by police, faces a misdemeanor charge of negligent driving, which carries a possible penalty of 6 months in jail and a $300 fine.

Officers say the man was driving drowsy and appeared to have his eyes closed just prior to the crash.

A total of 9 people were aboard the bus as it slammed into the Idaho Power Headquarters, dislodging a structural pillar and penetrating the building. Prior to the crash, the bus cut through a parking lot, damaging cars, street signs, and trees.

One passenger was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash happened Monday, January 6.
