BOISE -- Police in Boise have arrested a 49-year-old woman after officers say she refused several requests to return a lost toy dog to its owner.
Kelly R. Featherston is charged with felony grand theft in the case.
Officers say the Boise woman was given a lost Maltese by a good Samaritan who found the animal running loose in a northwest Boise parking lot on Tuesday.
In a strange twist, the same person who originally found the dog was able to contact its owner via Craigslist and explain the ordeal, according to police.
That's when things got complicated.
Boise Police spokesperson Lynn Hightower said when the dog's owner went to Featherston's home to get her pooch, she was told there weren't any dogs there.
However, Hightower says the victim reported hearing several dogs inside.
Police eventually intervened, and after interviewing Featherstone, found that she did have possession of the toy dog.
Featherston was booked into the Ada County Jail just before Midnight.
The toy Maltese is valued at $700, according to police.
