BOISE – A Boise man is accused of spitting in an officer’s face and yelling racial slurs at police during his arrest early Saturday morning.
Siale Vailea, 22, is charged with felony battery of an officer, malicious injury to property, DUI, driving without privileges, resisting and obstructing officers, and having no proof of vehicle insurance.
It all started when a Boise Police officer on patrol on W. Highland Street Saturday morning was nearly struck by another car as it pulled away from a stop sign on Leadville Street. After pulling over the driver, the officer smelled alcohol on Vailea and noticed his speech was slurred.
A check of his driver’s record revealed that Vailea had a suspended driver’s license and no car insurance.
While conducting field sobriety tests, two people walked up to the officer and began talking to Vailea and attempting to interfere with the ongoing investigation. The officer then put Vailea in the back of the patrol car so he could talk with those attempting to interfere.
When he returned to Vailea there was noticeable damage to the patrol car’s rear antenna. Vailea was placed under arrest for DUI. While this was happening, Vailea spit in the officer’s face and yelled racial slurs.
He was booked in the Ada County Jail.
