40 pounds of pot found in Boise hotel room

BOISE -- Three people are facing drug trafficking charges after deputies say they found more than 40 pounds of marijuana inside trash bags in their hotel room Nov. 22.

The Ada County Sheriff's Office went to the hotel in the 8000 block of West Overland Road at about 1 p.m. after someone reported the smell of marijuana coming from one of the rooms.

Deputies got to the hotel just as 36-year-old Maxine Dearing of Garden City and 33-year-old Lucas Graham of Boise walked out of the room carrying a cardboard box containing two plastic bags of marijuana, according to the sheriff's office.

After talking with the investigators, Dearing agreed to unlock the hotel room. But as the deputies started to go in, a man inside the room - later identified as 46-year-old James Rhodes of Garden City - pushed the door shut again.

Rhodes eventually opened the door after a discussion with the deputies. As they went inside, the deputies say they saw marijuana residue all over Rhodes, as well as several garbage bags full of marijuana,a marijuana-trimming device, packaging materials, and multiple pieces drug paraphernalia.

All three suspects were arrested and taken to the Ada County Jail. If convicted of trafficking in marijuana, they could each face up to 15 years in prison.
