MOSCOW, Idaho -- The sheriff in Latah County will ask the Idaho State Police to investigate his department's use of social media in the wake of allegations that online harassment caused one teen to commit suicide.
Sheriff Wayne Rausch told the Lewiston Tribune Tuesday he wants independent detectives to investigate the actions of deputies and the department's former Facebook page as it relates to the death of 19-year-old Andrew Cain.
Cain's sister has said online harassment via the sheriff's office Facebook page contributed to her brother's death. A post on the page listed Andrew Cain as a "Wanted Person" for the month of June.
Rausch pulled the plug on the agency's Facebook page last week. He also apologized for some of the online exchanges a deputy had with Andrew Cain.
