CALDWELL – A 14-year-old boy is facing felony charges after leading police on high-speed chase last night.
Around 11:18 p.m. Wednesday, Caldwell Police officers observed a red Mazda 3 driving recklessly on Cleveland Boulevard without its headlights on. The vehicle pulled into a Walmart parking lot and police tried to stop it.
However, the car did not stop and the driver sped off on E. Ustick Road, driving recklessly and reaching speeds over 80 mph.
Because of the reckless disregard of the driver, the pursuit was discontinued. The car continued west on Ustick Road and crashed into a home while trying to turn onto S. Montana.
The 14-year-old driver was injured in the crash and taken to West Valley Medical Center in Caldwell. He was later transported to a Boise hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
No one else was hurt in the crash.
Police say the homeowners were not at home at the time of the incident.
Police say the boy is charged with reckless driving, felony eluding, vehicle taken without permission, a curfew violation, and failure to purchase a driver's license.
The investigation is ongoing.
