Coroner: 21-year-old dies after crash into pond

ADA COUNTY -- A Meridian man who was pulled from his submerged pickup after he crashed into a pond died Tuesday, according to the Ada County Coroner's Office.

Joseph Anthony Klonowski, 21, was pronounced dead at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise at 1:07 p.m., two hours after his vehicle veered off Idaho 16 and into the water.

It's unclear what caused Klonowski to crash. According to the coroner, he was seen slumped over the wheel just before the pickup went off the road.

The 21-year-old's cause and manner of death are listed as pending. Coroner Dotti Owens said  her office will conduct outside tests to determine how he died. Those results of that testing could take several weeks, she said.

No one else was in Klonowski's pickup when the wreck happened. The vehicle was pulled out of the water by fire crews.
