Seattle-based Starbucks is reportedly being sued after a Texas customer claimed she was scalded by hot tea due to a lid not being properly secured on her cup.
The Seattle PI reports Christina Sturgess claims she suffered second-degree burns in the August 2009 incident at a Starbucks drive-thru in San Antonio.
The woman’s attorneys reportedly claim the barista did not seal the lid on the cup. When she took a sip, the lid came off and the hot tea poured over her.
The lawsuit claims Sturgess underwent skin grafts and other surgeries as a result. The Seattle-based attorneys also claim Starbucks knew of defects in its cups that left other customers burned.
There is no estimate for damages in the lawsuit.
Starbucks has reportedly not responded in court.
