CANYON COUNTY -- Payette County Sheriff's deputies put down spike strips to stop a motorist who led them on an 18-mile chase down Interstate 84 this morning.

Around 11:50 a.m., Canyon County Sheriff's dispatch received a citizen complaint about a reckless driver westbound on I-84 at mile post 32.

Deputies spotted a silver Toyota Camry driving erratically and around 55 mph. They attempted to stop the vehicle at mile post 26.

However, the driver failed to yield and continued westbound into Payette County at speeds of 50 to 55 mph.

Payette County Sheriff's deputies put down spike strips at mile post 9 - deflating both front tires of the car.  The driver finally came to a stop near mile post 8.

The driver, David Trigueiro, 62, of Weiser, is a diabetic and was treated by paramedics for low blood sugar.  He was cited for careless driving.
