Powell's Sweet Shoppe gives its customers a chance to go back in time with a wide variety of old favorites.

BOISE -- If you watched the Today Show Wednesday you may have seen the anchors taking a little trip down memory lane by way of candyland.

Well it turns out you can get "Gold Rush,” the somewhat politically incorrect, candy cigarettes, even pixy dust - and you don't have to look far to find these old fashioned favorites.

You don't even have to look beyond Boise.

Powell’s Sweet Shoppe opened its doors Thursday off Parkcenter Boulevard -- offering an impressive array of candy, toys and novelty items.

"Every time someone comes through that door, eyes brighten, their jaw opens and wow -- you get that wow," said Joe Giordano.

For Joe and Deb Giordano that “wow” factor turned into a new career in candy. The couple recently traded in their grown up jobs to move back to Boise and open Powell's Sweet Shoppe - a newly franchised candy store. The Bown Crossing location is only the second store to open outside of California, where the company started in 2003.

"We walked into Michael Powell's store one day and said, 'this is unbelievable.'  And, we did a total life change," said Joe.

"It took about two minutes. We said, 'wow, this would be great in Boise," said Deb.

Powell's features a Willy Wonka theater section, an impressive selection of specialty sodas and 24 flavors of Italian gelato.

But its strongest selling point has more to do with nostalgia.

"Right now we're in memory lane and here we have all of our old time, old fashioned candies that you probably haven't seen for years and years and years. Nut Goodies, Mabazabas, Razzles, the Little Sixlets," said Joe.

Fast forward to today's treats and you get not just sweets, but high tech, interactive edibles like gummy fireflies that light up.

And if you need to get in touch with your inner child, or your inner 9-year-old boy, there are a couple of products worth noting. First, the nose hose, which is sure to help the company's gross profits.

Another kid favorite has super charged sour power. It's called toxic waste, and is a good tool in any prankster’s arsenal.

While my comfort level may be stuck in the era of pop rocks, the Giardanos say that doesn't matter because they're trying to appeal to all ages, all at once.

There’s a little something for everyone, the young or young at heart.
