MERIDIAN – The Village at Meridian will hold its grand opening this Friday.

The new retail center at the corner of Eagle Road and Fairview Avenue has a lot more than meets the eye.

KTVB got an inside look at the Village at Meridian today.  Planners want this to be a destination place to shop and enjoy a great meal.

“We are planning this to be the community gathering place,” said general manager Hugh Crawford.

With something so big taking shape, its impact to the local economy is just as huge.

Crawford sees years of work finally coming together.

“Everything is just falling to place,” said Crawford. “We bought this land back in 2007, things couldn’t have worked out better for what we are doing now.”

We have seen the economy strengthen in the Treasure Valley.

Last year, Big Al’s and a number of other big name stores opened at the Village at Meridian.

Now, they are just days away from opening the lifestyle phase to the public.

“The entire Boise economy is ripe for this,” said Crawford. “Retailers are looking at this market to come here -- the restaurants, the entertainment components, they want to be in this market because it’s booming.”

And this booming market is a good thing for jobs as well.

Crawford says the construction alone brings in a thousand workers, each restaurant will employ upwards of 200 people and the retail stores around 20 people.

“And as we continue to open new phases, I mean, we anticipate we are going to have 10,000 jobs just at the Village of Meridian,” said Crawford.

Crawford says the phases will continue with more top notch stores and eateries, and must-see architecture.

“They are just going to come here to 'ooh' and 'ahh' at what we are doing,” said Crawford.

According to Crawford, the Village at Meridian will be a destination for many people.

“We are moving to where the people are, it’s about location, and we are in the heart of where the community is, at the corner of Eagle and Fairview, it’s where people live and where they want to work,” said Crawford.

We asked about the traffic at Eagle Road and Fairview Avenue, the state’s busiest intersection. Crawford says they are putting millions into improving the roads, and that will continue over the next few years as the Village at Meridian expands.

The grand opening is Friday, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that starts at 9 a.m.

If you are wondering about those jobs, there is a virtual job fair online with the Idaho Department of Labor. This is where all the job openings are posted, with ways to apply.
