BOISE -- A train maker and hospital-billing software provider may get $325,000 in training money to help them prepare 100 workers for new jobs that would add steam to Idaho's sluggish economic recovery.
MotivePower Inc., a Boise-based rail-car unit of Pennsylvania-based Wabtec, will receive up to $288,000 to train 85 workers, as well as to update the skills of another eight workers.
And Boise software maker iVinci Health will receive up to $38,000 to train seven new employees.
The cash is coming from the Workforce Development Training Fund, financed by companies through a 3 percent set-aside on Idaho unemployment insurance taxes.
The Idaho Department of Labor says companies tap the funding to reimburse costs of training employees for new jobs -- provided they pay at least $12 an hour and provide insurance.
