CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) — Car sharing service Zipcar Inc. says it has pulled from its fleet the 2010 Toyota Prius hybrids affected by Tuesday's recall.
Zipcar says the recall affects less than 1 percent of its fleet.
Separately, representatives for rental car agencies Hertz and Avis say they also began grounding affected Priuses in their fleets. Both agencies, which also had pulled other recalled Toyota models, said the recalls affect a small percentage of their total vehicles.
Toyota is recalling 437,000 Priuses and other hybrid vehicles worldwide to fix a potential problem with their brakes. Toyota says the fix takes 40 minutes and involves adding new software that controls the anti-locking system.
The hybrid recall follows recalls of more than 8 million other Toyota vehicles for gas pedal problems.
Zipcar has removed from its fleet the 2009 and 2010 Toyota Matrix models affected by the previous recalls until they can be fixed.
