RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The newly installed chief executive officer of Duke Energy Corp. wants to change how the utility is regulated in the Carolinas and Florida so that America's largest electric company can more easily pass along the cost of big power plants a little at a time.

Duke Energy CEO Lynn Good stepped into the company's top job Monday. A Wall Street analyst says Good listed high on her to-do list getting consumers to start paying for big projects earlier rather than waiting until power plant construction is done.

Duke Energy spokesman Tom Williams said she wasn't available for interviews to clarify the statement. Williams says Good seeks a pay-as-you-go model for big projects, reducing the need for big rate increases.
