SINGAPORE (AP) — Singapore says it is in talks with the U.S. about getting an exemption from economic sanctions designed to limit oil imports from Iran.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement Tuesday that Singapore did not import any Iranian crude last month. Singapore is a major Asian trading hub for crude and oil products.

The U.S. on Monday exempted seven nations from sanctions after they significantly reduced Iranian oil imports.

The U.S. sanctions are designed to pressure Iran into allowing inspectors access to its nuclear power program to ensure no weapons are developed.
