BLM gathering wild horses in E. Oregon

VALE, ORE. - The Vale District Bureau of Land Management has started gathering wild horses near Harper, Oregon because of overpopulation.

Land managers say the herd has begun jeopardizing the health of surrounding wildlife habitat.

A count in July found nearly 260 adult horses and 77 foals.

Officials say an appropriate herd size is up to 150 animals.

Gathered horses will be taken to a facility near Burns and available for adoption later this year.
