HOMEDALE – Police in Owyhee County say, thanks to help from the public, they have found the man suspected of raping a bartender.
20-year-old John Lonkey was arrested at his home in Caldwell on Saturday morning, and he is currently in the Owyhee County jail awaiting charges.
Homedale Chief of Police Jeff Eidemiller said they received a tip about Lonkey, shortly after KTVB reported the rape suspect search on Friday night.
According to police, the assault took place June 21, after the bar closed around midnight.
Eidemiller would not disclose which bar the attack occurred at, but did say it was a bar in the downtown district.
The suspect was described as a white male in his teens or early 20s with a stocky build and was also described as being 5 feet 6 inches to 6 feet tall. He was seen leaving the bar driving in an early 2000’s style, red, Ford Mustang.
Eidemiller said the victim did not know her attacker.
She also told police the man was looking for help because he claimed to be having car problems. While inside the bar, the woman told police he solicited her for sex.
When the victim refused, the suspect pulled out a pocket knife and threatened her. He then took her into the bathroom of the bar where police said she was forcibly raped.
Eidemiller said on the way out, the suspect destroyed the phone so the victim could not call the police for help.
The victim was treated at a nearby hospital.
When KTVB was first told of this attack, Chief Eidemiller said the suspect would face burglary and aggravated assault charges.
