MALHEUR COUNTY -- Oregon Department of Transportation says U.S. Highway 95 from Burns Junction to the Nevada border has reopened after being closed Tuesday evening. A pilot car is leading traffic through the area.
The Long Draw Fire, burning north of McDermitt, grew from 30,000 acres to almost 100,000 acres since Monday night, according to a firefighter on scene. Erratic winds pushed the fire over control lines and forced evacuations.
Portions of the road were closed around noon on Monday after flames and smoke from the Long Draw Fire threatened traffic.
ODOT says to expect delays in the area and are advising travelers to avoid the area and use alternate routes, until conditions improve.
