GRANT COUNTY , Ore. -- A Weiser couple that operated a scrap metal business have been convicted in Grant County, Oregon, of aggravated theft in the first degree.
Anthony Montwheeler, 44, and his wife, Anita Harmon-Montwheeler, 36, owned and operated Northwest Materials Management Services. The business ran ads in local newspapers in eastern Oregon and western Washington to haul scrap metal.
Authorities say they contracted with an elderly Grant County couple to remove various equipment and metals from their property. The Montwheelers removed about 250 tons of metal, but paid less than half the full value, stealing over $10,00 in value from the victims.
Since their convictions last month, the Grant County District Attorney's Office and Grant County Sheriff's Office says other victims have come forward and reported similar crimes by the couple.
Anthony Montwheeler has been sentenced to two years in prison. Anita Harmon-Montwheeler has been sentenced to 16 months in prison.
Anyone with information regarding possible criminal conduct by the Montwheelers or Northwest Materials Management Services is asked to call Grant County Sheriff's Deputy James Burgett at (541) 575-1131 or the Grant County District Attorney's Office at (541) 575-0146.
