BOISE -- Boise Police are investigating a break-in at Garfield Elementary School. The person who broke in caused thousands of dollars in damage.

Police say the break-in likely happened some time Sunday night. A teacher discovered the damage Monday morning.

Someone broke a window on a door to one of the portable classroom buildings. That's how they got in.

Once they got inside, they shredded an American flag that was hanging on the wall and threw three computers on the floor. Fortunately, the computers did not break.

The vandal also tore wiring covers off the wall.

Nothing was stolen from the building, but the damage is estimated at about $5,000.

Police say the person also attempted to break in to another portable classroom building. They broke a window, but did not gain access to that building.

The principal tells us that class went on as scheduled. She was surprised at the break-in, given the school is located along busy Broadway Avenue.

Anyone with information about this crime is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 343-COPS. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
