NEW PLYMOUTH -- One lane of Interstate 84 was closed down briefly Sunday evening while fire crews responded to car that ignited in flames.

KTVB viewer Danny Cone sent us photos of the VW Bug as black smoke spewed into the sky. He says the driver told him that he had just completed some engine work.

Payette County dispatch says they got quite a few calls to report the fire, which happened in the westbound lanes of I-84 near milepost 7 around 6:20 p.m.

The New Plymouth Fire Department arrived on scene and quickly extinguished the flames. There were no injuries, but the vehicle is a total loss.

Cone says the male driver did manage to get himself and his possessions out of the car before it burst into flames.

No word on what caused the car fire.
