NORFOLK, Va. – Boise Mayor Dave Bieter took part in a change of command ceremony last Friday for the USS BOISE, a Los Angeles-class attack submarine.

The ceremony was held Feb. 22 at the Naval Station in Norfolk, Virginia. Former Boise Mayor Dirk Kempthorne also took participated in the event.

Cmdr. Scott S. Luers relieved Cmdr. Brian L. Sittlow as commanding officer.

Sittlow's command was recognized for its numerous accomplishments, including two successful deployments to the European Command Theater of operations. Under Sittlow’s command the ship was the most decorated submarine in the Navy.

The USS Boise is well known for its strong bond to the capital city, and often dons the blue and orange of Boise State University to show its support for the Broncos.
