BOISE-- Two people were hospitalized late Tuesday night after a fiery car crash in Garden City.

Idaho State Police say 23-year-old Nathaniel McDonald of Boise was speeding on State Street in his 1994 Chevy Caprice and lost control just west of Glenwood Street.

McDonald hit a power pole, sideswiped a car driven by a 25-year-old Middleton woman, then hit another power pole. His car eventually caught on fire.

An Idaho State Police Trooper who witnessed the crash extinguished the flames.

Both McDonald and his 23-year-old passenger, Paula Swindell from Emmett, were taken to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.

The extent of their injuries wasn't immediately available.

The driver who was sideswiped was not hurt.

Police say alcohol was a factor in the crash.

All involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts.
