TWIN FALLS, Idaho -- Twin Falls police say the man who shot and injured 27-year-old Joseph Cossette is saying he acted in self-defense.

Capt. Matt Hicks tells The Times-News that police are working to finish their investigation of the shooting that occurred Monday morning.

It's unclear if Cossette is still hospitalized. The name of the man who police say did the shooting hasn't been released.

Police say Cossette was reportedly trying to kick down the door of a house where his estranged wife fled after a fight. Shortly after the first call, officers were told shots had been fired and Cossette was injured.

Cossette's estranged wife and their children had gone to the house after officers responded to a domestic battery call involving the couple late Sunday.
