BOISE -- To celebrate the opening of the 8th and Main building, on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., there will be a lot of family activities, including some big concerts

"Starting at about 2:00, we'll have Alan Stone, who's a great blues singer, fantastic musician. Then Ra Ra Riot after them. Then we'll have the grand opening ribbon cutting. Then the Goo Goo Dolls will finish things off," said Tommy Ahlquist, Gardner Company Chief Operating Officer.

In addition to the concerts, there will also be a beer garden, food and activities.

"We have family events that start at 1:00 in U.S. Bank plaza. So there will be a heated tent to keep people nice and toasty, arts and crafts, kids activities, limited edition t-shirts. We're going to have a food truck rally there so people can get some grub," said Nicola McIntosh, who is with Zions Bank.

Here's is what to expect:

  • The activities, food and drinks will all be around U.S. Bank.
  • The stage will be on Main Street near 9th Street.

For the event:

  • Main Street will be closed from 9th to Capital all day, as will 8th Street, from Main to Idaho.
  • Part of Main is already closed where the stage will go.
  • Organizers and sponsors say they expect a big crowd, and hope the public feels a part of the celebration of finally getting something on that downtown Boise plot of land.

"I think everyone's just been dying to see this building and what's beautifully taken the place of the hole," McIntosh said.

"It's time to celebrate the hole going away and this new building standing here as a landmark going into the future. So it's really important we get the whole public involved and celebrate this together," Ahlquist said.

In addition to all of the free festivities outside, it's also a time you can come inside and check out the lobby of the new building.

Zions Bank says there will be some surprises during the ribbon cutting ceremony, but they wouldn't give us any more hints. That part of the event will be around 6:00 p.m.
