BOISE -- Boise Police have arrested a man they say stole a car and crashed it.

Matthew Humphreys, 23, of Boise, was arrested last night after officers say they spotted the stolen car near Orchard Street and Franklin Road.

A woman reported her car stolen early Thursday morning after she turned it on to warm it up.

Around 5:30 p.m. Thursday night, an officer spotted the stolen car near Orchard Street and Franklin Road.

Police say Humphreys began driving at a high rate of speed on busy rush hour roads and for safety reasons, the officer did not chase the car.

Later, a witness called police saying the stolen car crashed into a ditch near the area.

When police got there they could not find the driver, however witnesses were able to provide information to police and he was arrested at a home in Garden City last night.

Officers say they found a cellular phone in the car that they believe belongs to the suspect.

Humphreys is in the Ada County Jail charged with grand theft.
