Snowmobiler killed in avalanche near Cascade

BOISE -- One snowmobiler is dead and another  hurt after an avalanche near Cascade Thursday afternoon.

Lt. Dan Smith with the Valley County Sheriff's Office said the accident happened around 1:40 p.m. at Rock Lake west of Cascade.

Police say the avalanche was triggered by the snowmobilers. 

The body of Joel Barrie, 24, from Payette, was found buried under five feet of snow with his snowmobile on top of him.  His body was found about 45 mintues after the avalanche.

A second snowmobiler was hurt and flown by air ambulance to a nearby hospital.  He does not have life-threatening injuries.
