MERIDIAN -- Hundreds turned out for a celebration Saturday at the Gateway School of Language and Culture.
The school provides the only Chinese and global immersion program in the state.
It was a packed gym for kids and their parents as they celebrated the Chinese New Year with authentic food and art.
There was even a performance by students involved in the Chinese immersion program.
"It's a great way for them to open up their eyes to the world and experience the world through language," said Debbie Line, a 2nd grade teacher at Gateway.
The goal of the school and the celebration is to help each new generation of Chinese-Americans connect to their roots. The program also aims to prepare students for a potential business future with China.
