BOISE -- The Boise Rescue Mission hosted its 1st Annual 'Rescue Car Derby' on Saturday at City Light Home for Women and Children.
At the derby, kids from the community raised money for the mission by racing their little, pinewood car creations.
"All these kids, they have been painting them and sanding them," said Megan Korthals, from the mission's community relations. "We actually had the BMW guys come and paint them with actual BMW paint. They did such a beautiful job, they really got into the cars, they shaped them into the shape of BMW cars."
One racer raised $1,100 for the Boise Rescue Mission. Organizers say for every $4,000 they raised on Saturday, they will be able to serve about 8,000 meals.
