BOISE -- A priest with local ties, working to improve lives in one of the world's most poverty-stricken countries, is being honored with a million-dollar prize.

Father Rick Frechette and his team of volunteers direct orphanages, schools, mobile medical clinics and a children's hospital in Haiti.

Thursday night, Father Rick was announced as winner of the 2012 Opus Prize, which honors people who work hard to bring about lasting change, and inspire others to get involved.

We told you about his efforts back in September on Viewpoint.

The St. Alphonsus Foundation based in Boise provides support for that work through "Project Haiti Idaho."
