NAMPA – A Nampa man is behind bars after leading police on a high-speed pursuit in a stolen van early Monday morning.

Police tried to stop a suspected drunk driver around 12:51 a.m. on Caldwell Boulevard near Karcher Road. The driver of a 1996 Ford minivan tried to elude police by running stop signs and red lights while speeding east on Caldwell Boulevard.

Officers deployed spike strips and flattened the right front tire of the van, which was reported stolen out of Caldwell. The vehicle continued driving on its rim and eventually came to a stop on South Powerline Road, south of East Iowa Avenue.

The suspect, 27-year-old Benny Sanchez Jr., resisted officers who had to use a taser to subdue him.

Sanchez was booked into the Canyon County Jail on charges of DUI, felony eluding, grand theft by possession, resisting arrest and an invalid driver’s license.
