SANDPOINT -- Police in northern Idaho say a homeless man who held a machete to another man's throat has been taken into custody.

Police in Coeur d'Alene tell the Coeur d'Alene Press they used a stun gun to subdue 38-year-old Kenneth R. Smith on Friday evening.

Police say they responded to a report of a fight and a man with a machete, but when they arrived the man had left. But they received additional reports of a man in another part of the city waving a machete, that he held the blade to another man's throat, and that he chased a different man while holding the machete.

Smith was transported Kootenai County Jail. He faces charges of felony aggravated battery and aggravated assault, obstructing an officer, malicious injury to property and two counts of battery.
