HOMEDALE, Idaho -- The Homedale Police Department along with the Idaho State Police are currently investigating the suspicious death of a child in Homedale.
On Sunday evening, the Owyhee County Prosecutor told KTVB he is looking into allegations that a mother possibly killed her child and burned the remains. He had no further details, and at this time, no one has been charged.
Police began working a crime scene at a house on Washington Avenue around 8:00 p.m. Saturday.
"Homedale's usually a pretty quiet place. This right here is just crazy. It's scary," a neighbor who did not want to be identified said. "I don't think there's ever been anything like that here."
Police say they are still investigating, and told KTVB very limited information is available.
"It's a suspicious death investigation. Currently, at this time, we can't release information because of the sensitivity," said Sgt. Mike McFetridge with Homedale Police Department.
Because of all of the police activity, neighbors have been on edge. However, police say there is no danger to the public, and they have a person of interest.
"There is no current present danger for the community at all at this time. There's nothing to fear, or nothing to worry about," McFetridge said.
Police could not give any details on the victim or person of interest. The prosecutor says it is possible charges could come as early as Monday, and more information will likely be available.
