MOUNTAIN HOME -- Mountain Home Police are looking for a man who they say stabbed five people at a bar early Sunday morning.
Rae Ann Stoecker has been running a jewelry store in downtown Mountain Home since 1968. She said she's never heard of a crime like this in her town.
"What was involved there that would cause that type of thing?," said Stoecker. "It's scary."
At about 1:45 Sunday morning, just across the street at a bar called Charlie's Place, five people were stabbed.
"That's something we just don't have," said Sgt. Rick Viola with Mountain Home Police. "It's unheard of for Mountain Home, and we take it pretty serious."
Viola said in his 17 years with MHPD, he's never responded a similar crime.
He said it started with some sort of fight. Witnesses said as a bouncer was trying to remove the suspect, the suspect pulled a knife and stabbed the bouncer. Police said the suspect then stabbed four other people before he ran from the bar.
Police and witnesses said one of the victims was found lying in front of a nearby church. They say he was chasing the suspect, who was running west toward the railroad tracks.
While the bouncer was treated and released, police said the other victims were taken to Boise hospitals, three by air ambulance and one by ground ambulance.
"Right now, the suspect is at large, considered armed and dangerous," said Viola.
Viola is looking for your help in finding the suspect. He's a man in his mid-to-late twenties, with dark skin, and short black hair. He's clean shaven, and about 5'8" with a skinny build. He was wearing blue jeans, a black or dark blue shirt, and black-and-white checkered shoes.
"We need to get this suspect in custody," said Viola.
But even though he's still on the loose, Stoecker said she feels safe.
"It's a good town," said Stoecker. "We have a good police department here, a good Sheriff's Department, good men on the force. No, I think it's good."
Police tell us all four victims in the hospital were in stable condition as of Sunday morning.
