BOISE -- More than a year after a plane crash in Idaho that nearly killed his family, the pilot has released a book about the unbelievable experience.

You may remember when the private plane smashed into the Owyhee Mountain Range last year.

The accident injured the pilot, his wife, and his daughter.

Everyone struggled to survive in the severe weather conditions for 15 hours.

The pilot, Brian Brown, returned to Idaho for a book signing.

The book is called "Rescued: One Family's Miraculous Story of Survival."

It recounts the frightening moments when the plane crashed in May of last year and the amazing rescue that followed.

"We all very much thought we would lose our lives on the mountain," said Brown.

For 15 hours, the family huddled inside the wreckage, battling hypothermia, hoping for a way out.

And they got it, when their cell phone somehow got service, and a newly certified crew with the Idaho National Guard pulled them out.

"We started writing all those things down, journaling them and the story really started unfolding as we started recognizing all the miracles that happened," said Brown.

Brown says he compiled his account of the experience, along with his wife's and his daughter's and also included details from the rescuers themselves.

All those stories went into the book.

"Everybody that comments says once they've started the book they can't put it down, and the word wow," said Brown.

Brown hopes it also makes readers realize the importance of each moment.

"They need to have their eyes wide open and pay attention to the important things in life cause this certainly changed my life," said Brown.

The book was released on September 1.

Brown says nearly 8,000 copies were sold before that release.

Since the accident, Brown has continued to fly, piloting about 20 trips in the last year.
